My paperwhites are blooming now and my amaryllis will be blooming soon. Actually last year's bulb has a bud too so there will be 3 stalks of flowers soon. The color will be a surprise.
The first year that I had paperwhites I wondered what was that strange smell in the house. I finally realized it was the flowers. I enjoy the smell now although the first time I thought it was strange.
Our old snow was all melted except the piles along the streets and driveways. Yesterday it flurried all day and now our town is coated in white again. I don't think it is going to amount to much accumulation but it is COLD again. My van sits in a heated garage most of the time and it is going to have to sit outside all day today while I work. I hope it will forgive me.

I was surprised at the fragrance the first time I grew paperwhites also.
What really caught my eye in this post was not only the paper whites, but the quilt hanging on your wall behind the paper whites. Would you mind posting or showing a picture about this quilt? I am assuming that you made it?
I thought it was interesting that you call the flowers "Paperwhites" as they look like what we call Jonquals and they do have a strange smell.
Like Jackie your quilt on the wall caught my eye.Would be lovely to see it all. Are we being nosey??
Cute blocks. How nice to have flowers blooming in the winter!
The store is so very lucky to have someone like you that is willing to come when needed. 47 years old...not very old. My sympathy to the family. I like to know what I'm smelling too!
Cute little baby blocks. I love your paperwhite narcissus! I agree, they do have a strange odour. I bought a hyacinth bulb a couple of weeks ago and the smell has almoat driven me crazy - so sweet and spring-like. If I can't have spring outside, I'll just have it indoors. Like Jackie, I would also love to see a photo of that gorgeous quilt on your wall behind the narcussus!
I love the flowers - I was going to stop and get some flowers yesterday and totally forgot as the only store I ran in was Hobby Lobby :)and I didn't want fake ones and walked right past that to the row I needed.

Cute blocks!!!
I love the looks of the paperwhites, but cannot stand having them inside. It's a shame they have to smell like that when they look so pretty.
Definitely an acquired fragrance! Once you figure out that someone hasn't spilled gasoline on the carpet, they're actually very nice to have around! :)
And I'm with everyone else -- what about that quilt on the wall????
Someone gave me a paperwhite/narcissus "kit" for Christmas. It was not expensive, but seeing those lovely blooms in the dead of winter has brought me so much joy. I need to remember that next year when I need to look for thoughtful gifts.
Love your Mission-style chairs and bookcase. That "mystery wallhanging" sets them off perfectly.
I agree with the "other" Wanda about you being able to fill in at the store whenever needed. This is a sad time for them I am sure.
From what I see your ABC blocks are darling, I think I would like to try that one for my new lil grandson.
Love paperwhites but they do not like me ~ their aroma gives me a sore throat. It is a treat to see them in your house they are beautiful.

Paperwhites look gorgeous, but I can't stand the smell. I'll enjoy your photos!
I've never grown paperwhites. Now I'm very curious about their scent!
I agree with others about the quilt on the wall. Do you think you could post it so we could have a closer look-see? It is so nice to have a touch of spring in the house when the weather is still in the winter doldrums outside. We are going to get your cold tonight in Wisconsin, and windy too I hear. Stay warm!
I can't get enough of your flowers! I enjoyed your summer flowers and your Christmas cactus. We have been enjoying weather in the 60's. We have a cold front on the way with a possibility of snow flurries Friday morning.
Your paperwhites are beautiful. I like your small blocks you made from your small triangles. And, of course, all your quilts are beautiful, even while they are in progress.
I adore the fresh sharp slightly citrusy smell of paperwhites! My Paternal grandmother loved them too.
Hope your vehicle forgave you!
It is quite a strong smell - one you grow into!!
