Testing for accuracy..........

This is a block in a quilt in Kaffe Fassett's Kaleidoscope of Quilts.
I decided to test the accuracy of the cutting directions before I dive into it. Everything was exactly right so now I just have to decide what fabrics I will use in the quilt.
As you can see this quilt was made by Liza Prior-Lucy and she used fabrics from another designer from the Rowan/Westminster company. I think this one has the feel of a tapestry because the background in most of the blocks is a medium to dark fabric. I think maybe I will use some batiks in it.
Yesterday was one of those days where I really can't say what I did all day. I guess that means I was relaxing. After I got home from Dad's apartment last night I trimmed the mossy quilt and I think I was successful. I will cut the next straight border today and then it is time to piece the last strata for the final triangles.

  3. The block is very pretty with the pink star points. I really like that! It will definitely have a different feel than Liza's quilt. It looks like yours may be more cheerful.

  5. I like the block - it will sure look different than the quilt shown. I have done that now and then too, make a block to check the pattern before I jump in.

  9. This will be lovely and what fun to play with different mediums. The batiks would look great in combination.

  10. Do you like quilts with star blocks where some of the stars "disappear?" In a number of blocks in the tapestry quilt, you don't even see the stars.

I'm not sure I like that look.

  11. It was interesting to read the comments above, I agree with Sequana about the stars that disappear on the piece that is your inspiration.

Now ~ your block, is as usual Wandaful ! I assume that you will use this test block for the piece. It is gorgeous to say the least.

  12. Wanda, I'm going to love this star quilt.

BTW, I disagree with the people who don't like it when the stars disappear. I think that makes it more interesting. It makes your mind play with the design.

Also, I didn't have a chance to comment yesterday, but I do love the 8" star block that you did with various leftovers. Love those colors!

  13. Hi Wanda,
Your star block looks great. It'll be fun to see how your choices will turn out.
I have to say I have never made a sample block; I probably should just to see how accurate my stitching and cutting are. When my friend and I make the same block for a quilt pattern we're working on (with our own fabrics), we always have different sizes. At least we are sewing for ourselves, not for a group project, so we are consistently "off". Hmmm...

  15. Nice to a have a reminder to do a test block before you start cutting. I made the mistake of cutting one quilt before checking for mistakes and ending up with one reversed template. Fortunately the reverse side was unnoticeable with that particular print.
