A few more stripe pieces

I was gone most of the day yesterday so I sewed a few more stripes last night. The blocks on the right aren't sewn; they are just triangles on the design wall. I mixed the new batch into the squares that were already on the wall. I was trying to alternate the reds and blues as outside borders but I see I have one red one in a blue square. I guess that proves it really doesn't matter because I didn't see it until I saw it on the computer monitor. The blocks on the left are cut with the lengthwise stripe and the ones on the right on the crosswise grain so I don't have enough of a lot of the fabrics to do the blocks on the left.

I hope I can stay home today and cut the binding for the argyle quilt. I also have to move a few things in the basement. I have one of only 30 homes in town that still has a gas meter on the inside of the house. They are finally going to get them all moved to the outside by July so someone is coming to inspect my meter tomorrow to see if it is in good condition. That happens to be the corner of the basement that my Jewel machine is in so I hope they give me plenty of notice what day they are actually going to move the meter.

  1. Interesting that you didn't see the block with the red until you put the photo on your computer. I sometimes take a photo and view it on my computer to see if the quilt is balanced - colour-wise etc., or if it is too heavy on any one side. I love your stripes fabric.

  4. You are making great progress on these stripes I love both sets. I need to finish sewing the rest of my triangles too. I hope that changing the gas meter won't inconvenience you too much. We are currently having the furnace checked.

  5. Great progress on the blocks!

Speaking of the Jewel, when I was picking up my new Janome 6600 yesterday, the dealer suddenly started talking about the Jewel and showed me the brochure and the table. They are having a great sale on them right now, but I just don't have the money or the space, but wow, I am even more jealous of your set up now. The Jewel looks awesome!

  6. Looking good! It's funny how the camera or computer will pick up things you don't see. I laid out a quilt yesterday, and took a picture of it. Didn't see the mistake I had made laying it out till I looked through the camera's viewfinder!

I can't decide if I like the stripes cut on the lengthwise or crossgrain better. They both look good!

  7. I actually like the "wrong" piece with the red in the blue square. It reminds me a lot of Gwen Marston's style of doing something traditional but then having a little "surprise" in the quilt. It keeps things interesting!

  8. I love the stripes -- the red in the centre of the blue looks fine to me -- I think it adds to the block rather than takes away from it.

  10. Your new stripe blocks just DAZZLE ! And the depth of each block on the right are mesmerising.

Good luck with the meter man. I hope he respects your space and takes good care.

  12. You're doing so good with these!! I just can not explain how interesting these are....darn...I think I used to have some stripes similar to those...by themselves they would have just been plain ole stripes....I.LIKE.
Oh I hate when work type men have to come into the house to do work...and have to trape through all your inner most precious things!!

  15. Wanda, I love these blocks. They are just gorgeous! I love the fact that some are different. Winton Marsalis would say that's a syncopation, and that it's good. It's definitely good!
