5 busy blocks

I got 5 blocks sewn together, and even though it is a color combination I like, this quilt just isn't me. All of these blocks are really busy so the next 5 will be plainer to see if it gels a little better. I don't usually judge something so early into the project because its true personality doesn't come out until all the parts are made. I cut 4 more fabrics to use in it, some more lights and a purple that has orange and green here and there in it. I have only used two of them so far in the blocks above.
Julie challenged anyone who wanted to join her to do one charity item each week of this year. I said that I would work on mine just once a month and do them all at once. I started the first preemie quilt for our church donation to a local hospital and will do 3 more today to fulfill my January quota. In March I will have to do 5 to have 13 done for the first 13 weeks of the year.

I have never been known as a cook and I use just basic simple recipes. Last night I made a big pot of chili and 6 of these will go in the freezer so I will have some instant meals in the next month.
One of my amaryllis buds is starting to open so I hope I will have some flower pictures in a couple days.

I love your blocks!! I think you've gotten the tapestry look you were going for. Please keep working on it. As always, thanks for you wonderful inspiration!

I agree the tapestry look is rich - and batiks are a huge fave of mine.

On a side night - my second daughter is called Amaryllis. besides the gorgeous flowers, the name was more common in the 14th century, and was the subject of madrigals such as 'though sweet Amaryllis dance in green'....

I cook the way you do, Wanda. I live alone, and cook a lot on weekends, then put single-meal containers in the freezer to bring to work for lunch or to have something quick at night after work when I don't feel like cooking. Gives me more time to sew!

Do you happen to remember where you got the bowls with the lids for the freezer? I like those! I have a lot of plastic things - you know glad ware or whatever but I really like those you show.

Chili looks delicious. I keep thinking of making some but I am the only one who would eat it. Hubby survives on cereal and grilled cheese. So, I keep putting it off.

Chili, that is what is for dinner tonight!! A great meal on a chilly day. Your blocks are coming along nicely, but I am anxious to see what you will add to it.

I am loving the blocks.

Living alone, I often make batches so I have instant meals too. I don't mind eating the same thing again if I really like it. And chili is always good in cold weather

I agree with you....each of those blocks is gorgeous on it's own but all together they seem to lose their importance!!! I think you should now go off on your own with strips or something to make them pop! Your pieces that you come up with always knock my socks off!

I think the addition of the lights and the one dark will help. I do hope you keep with it because I love the color palette.

I like the blocks you have so far. Batiks are sometimes hard to work with but your blocks remind me of jewels hidden in a jungle....just my thoughts.

I really the the combination in the 2 lower right hand blocks. The purples and greens are great. When you first showed the fabrics, my gut said more purple, but that is just me. I think it will come together and be great.

I like the lights you are adding it, will make it sparkle. Chili looks delish! I love the bowls, do they have a snap on lid? I'd love to find something like this for my batches of basics. I too, do the big batch cooking.

Well, you can always turn those blocks in to one of your charity projects.

While I do believe this: "I don't usually judge something so early into the project because its true personality doesn't come out until all the parts are made." I also learned something with your block fabric auditions. For me, it all works.

I like the lights you are contemplating adding to your 'tapestry' blocks. I know you will work your Magic Wand(a) on this piece. (^._,^)

Your generosity of giving too many charities including the preemie quilts just warms my heart.

Chili looks delicious. And I know it feels good to have a 'stash' in your freezer. Especially when you are called to work at the shop on a moments notice.

You put me to shame with all of your lovely charity quilts. My "lofty" goal is to do one a month and I struggle to accomplish that. Keep up the great work!

I agree that the blocks are busy, but they are beautiful.

Great job on the charity work.

Love those bowls! I have 2 of the gold color that I got in 1989 and I guard them with my life. They are the best for heating up things in the microwave since they have those handles. Mine also have the plastic covers, but I don't generally use them.

Grab-Its! I love them! I've been collecting them for years!

I usually just use them in the refrigerator, but occasionally use the plastic lids and stick 'em in the freezer.

Hope you are staying in and staying warm in this latest snowstorm!
