I recognized this one from my double 4 patch class.
Rag quilts are still popular.
This is another student's quilt, but not from a class that I taught.
There are several booths selling the fried dough a/k/a Elephant Ears.
I went out yesterday morning and split one with with a friend. This is how much I had left by the time I got to the car and could take a picture. They have cinnamon and sugar on them. I buy mine at a different booth, a little red barn. The owner has been working at it since 1982.

What wonderful sights and smells! Just wish I could smell them. That cake is awesome.
We have the Stampede here, but I wouldn't have the first clue whether it has all that craft and food entries. I'll have to check it out for next year. I only know the Stampede for the rodeo and carnival side.
Those elephant ears look suspiciously like beaver tails that we make around here. The fair looks like alot of things for everyone.
Looks like a great time! Those elephant ears look yummy...are they sort of like funnel cakes?
My mom used to make fried dough with scraps she pulled from dough when she made bread. At this moment I can't remember what we called that, but I know how much I love the taste.
At home we would sometimes have it on a plate and pour maple syrup on it - or use powdered sugar.
I have been known to buy pre-made bread dough at the store, let it rise and fry it.......*S* You get a hang of how to stretch it.
To answer someone above - it's yeast dough, not like funnel cakes at all.
Thanks for posting more fair pics! It's nice to see all this, without having to change out of my jammies!
Well done to your students and to you for winning.
As for the food, steak and philly - yummy, elephants ears - never heard of them but they look yummy. I'm hungry...........
I wonder where I could find a recipe for E,. ears--cottonreel
I am enjoying the Fair via your photo's. So much fun to study those quilts.
That was one impressive array of jams and jellies for sure. Cute cake.
Through the grapevine, I heard enteries were way up this year. Because you recieved passes to get in the gate, with your entry fee. Did it look like entries were up?
Those food vendors always make a day at the fair the best...

Thanks for sharing the FAIR!! We had the last Michigan State Fair here just recently. As a child we always went, lately it has not been a destination. ;( I am sure we will come to MISS ours! Gail
I LOVE the fair..this year, our state fair in TX is having fried BUTTER!! UGH, talk about artery clogging. YIKES!! They have a contest every year. Thanks for the great fair (and all other) blogging.
Hi Wanda,
Thanks for the fair photos. Love that tool box cake! You gotta wonder how they got those colors so accurate.
And it must do your heart good to see a student complete a class project and enter it in the fair (rather than leave it in a "to do" box).

Thank you for sharing your county fair pictures. I love county fairs. In looking at your pictures, I feel I have actually been to your fair! I like all the crafty/quilty entries. Isn't it fun to see one of your students win a ribbon?
I appreciate our visual tour of the fair. Almost like being there. Every display of quilts at fairs that I'm seeing on blogs looks like the display areas are packed! That speaks highly for the amount of competition.
This looks like a great fest!! I love little fests like this. Oktoberfest starts next week I believe here in Munich. I do NOT like it! In fact, I stay as far away from downtown and the fest area as possible. But I live close enough to it that it messes up parking and brings way too many strangers in the area.
Mmmmmmmmmmm Jaaaaaammmmmm!
Thanks for showing us the fair photos. I just LOVE fairs! The best part (aside from the quilts) is the elephant ears. It's a darned good thing I can't get them all the time, or I'd look like one of those barns at the fair! LOL I was in Canada a few years ago and saw beaver tails, which turned out to be like our elephant ears. Isn't it funny how different we all are, but when we learn more about each other- we are really a lot alike! Blogs are wonderful- they bring people together and give us the opportunity to learn and grow. Happy Monday, Wanda!
If that decorated cake won second place, I'd love to see the first place winner.
