Ta Da!!

Last night I finished sewing the last 2 rows together and got them added on to the 4 rows that were already sewn together. I don't think a border would add anything to this piece and I think the binding might be more than one fabric. I know some people call this shape lava lamp but to me it looks like dumbbells. Even though this one has bright colors I think it is a soothing, mesmerizing design. It is 42" square (per question in the first comment today).
I have to work at the store today because they are short handed. It keeps me on my toes handling the computerized checkout (and check in of repairs). I will take the embroidery quilt I am working on for them in case I have some time and see if I can make a little progress on it.

Two of the art quilters brought me some cannas which I am going to put in pots with some other plants. More shopping for plants, more fun.

  3. It looks like dumbbells but it FEELS live lava lamps. Very nice. As always, I could spend a long time looking at the fabric choices and figuring out why it works so well.

  5. I've loved watching this quilt go together. Curves are my weakness and I may just have to try this one. It's wonderful and I agree, just bind it.

  6. Hmmm...
    Dumbbells, lava lamps...

I actually thought they look like really "stylized" peanuts! Must be my mind gravitating toward food again. It looks great. I wonder how you will quilt it. Please post pics when it's all done!

  8. Jovial is right, looks like dumb bells, feels like lava lamps. gorgeous in any event.

But are you sure it doesn't need a border? To me it feels unfinished. Not really sure what kind though - so maybe all it needs is a colorful binding.

  14. It is mesmerizing because it is bubbles that are floating and those 'dumb bells' are double bubbles getting ready to spilt in two. Now that is what I think.

  15. Hey Wanda - I made a quilt almost identical in a Freddy Moran Class. I called it Andela Andela Ameba. It's in bright colors and black and white. Was fun to do!!

You are such an inspiration - love it!

  16. Yes...the shapes are mesmerizing. And the colors add to it...it's a great top. I think it's good that you're working some in the store. Just as long as it doesn't get to be TOO much and takes away from time for YOU!! You've truly already put in your hours for others!! You should come first!!!

  17. I agree with you on the borders. Honestly, I find I am disappointed in many a quilt that has a fantastic design in the center portion then one piece of fabric in the border. Like somehow finding a magical piece of fabric that contains all the same colours adds to the overall design. Rather, it often detracts from it.
