I thought I would be ready to sew earlier than I was. My shredder and I were best buddies last night as I shredded papers with my mother's identification on them. I spent most of the daylight hours in the garage and have a nice path through there now.
Here are the 2 new blocks mixed in with the previous ones.
The shaggy center peonies are blooming now.
We got my dad a new TV because he has cataracts and the old TV had such a snowy picture. We showed him which buttons he needed to use, but he ended up trying out all of the buttons and had it set so there was only one channel. I went over and rescanned all of the channels in and showed him the buttons to use again. I wonder how many times this is going to happen, LOL.

You certainly have your hands full tying up loose ends for your Mom and Dad. I am sure your Dad appreciates all that you are doing. Your blocks are gorgeous. I can't wait to see them all together. I am still waiting for my peonies to bloom, they seem to be taking forever.
Those blocks seem to, for whatever reason, really go with your peonies! I can only imagine what the scent from those flowers must be like!
I had to do something similar for my Mom with her television -- eventually she got accustomed to the remote.
Blocks are looking good!
I cut some peonies yesterday following your example, I'm finding the perfume a little too rich and overwhelming...
My heart goes out to you and your Dad. Digital TV is supposed to be wonderful but many of us who are not aged are finding it a challenge. The picture is wonderful but make one small mistake on the remote...bah! I'm fairly computer savvy and it confounds me often.
Your peonies are very beautiful and those scrappy blocks are a favorite of mine.
I wouldn't answer that question! I wonder if painting the buttons would help. Don't touch a black button, only yellow buttons...... or something like that.
Well, at least your dad is trying. My mom is so stubborn and set in her ways she will not use the TV in her room at the nursing home. Don't know why when she loved watching the food channel in her own home. Cataracts and glaucoma may have something to do with it - but she does watch it if my son puts it on while we are visiting.
Is he going to have surgery for the cataracts? Love the peonies. Those are the older variety, aren't they? They are the ones I had.
The pinks in the blocks really pop next to the photo of the peonies! maybe you could have a pink border the color of the peonies when you are through with the blocks!
My Stepfather is having the same problem with a new cordless phone at their house. Just doesn't remember the right buttons to push and disconnects when he's answering a call.
If your dad is anything like my MIL, you'll do the resetting over and over and over . . . I get confused with our set up so I can only imagine how hard it is for those who are older! We try very hard to remind ourselves that this kind of thing equates to changing diapers when our boys were babies - just part of the deal (and we hope that someone will be there to do it for us when the time comes).
If anyone out there has parents who have difficulty understanding and/or hearing the television, TV Ears are WONDERFUL! MIL has significant hearing loss and her hearing aids are a 50/50 proposition at this point (reading lips is more effective) ~ she LOVES her tv ears!
Wanda - I LOVE the two new blocks!!!!!
You have great fabric that I probably would not have put together but I like how you have done them. This will be a nice quilt when it is finished.
the peonies are lovely!
And I'm enjoying the new blocks you're putting together. I left a similar work in progress back home - concentric squares of Valerie Wells prints - some big bright patterns in florals and spots. I can't wait to get back to it.
They need to make a digital TV with knobs. My dad has the same problem. I guess it's a small price to pay for having our dads with us.
I like Vicky's idea of painting the buttons. If my remote had colors for the ones I should not touch, I would do a happy dance. In fact, I'm hoping I have some nail polish...
That peony is so spectacular. Goes well with your blocks!
Hang in there. The days will get better.
Try post its with your dad. We have them for my 85 year old mom and now she can even put movies in and watch them all by herself. Someday it may be me so I do not want to say too much.
These blocks look like little doorways to happiness to me.
Love love love the shaggy peony...we are still waiting for the standard peonies to open...too cool up here yet.
I so enjoy checking in to see your latest blocks for this series you are presently working on.
Your photo today of vase of peonies on one of your quilted pieces is just stunning. That shaggy center is gorgeous.

Ahhh, the shredding...it does take a long time...And I just want to hug your dad, I went through that with my mom and the remote and the dvd player...I wish I could go through it with her again, I miss her so...Your blocks are great and your peonies...well, you know what I think about those! =-)
Your blocks are wonderful...so colorful and fun. That peony is gorgeous...really gorgeous! Oh, I wish I could grow them out here in So Cal.
my tip
make a photo copy of the remote and then write on the copy with arrows pointing to the buttons
The new blocks are really cool. Love those Kaffe Fassetts! Between the boxes for the tv, the dvd player, and now the tv digital converter box, I am so challenged it's a wonder I can get anything on the tv. Whatever happened to, just turn it on and it works fine? Technology exasperates me! I've never seen a peony like that before, it's gorgeous. I've got some peonies too, but they're still just big round buds.
I can relate to your issues with your Dad, My father often tries to change the channel with the phone.
When will techniques be offered that are fitting in old people's needs? Large buttons, large characters and figures, few buttons in different colours. Cell phones with such features are being developed, but who thought of remotes?
The idea to paint them might work, they just have to be repainted soon, because paint wears off easily from rubber buttons.
Love that peony photo!
