I propped this finished piece on my red chair in the living room. I will get its official photo later. The purples look blue in the morning light so I will try again in afternoon light.I bought these woven labels with my name printed on them in the 1960's. To get the best price you had to order 100 of each. I have 5 different styles, 3 of which I ordered the 100. For small pieces this is all I do for labels, no name for the quilt and usually no date, although I sometimes write the year with permanent pen on the label.
The sun is shining again today. It didn't get above freezing yesterday but my basement was warm with conversation and quilt making with my art quilters group. Today is supposed to be in the 40's and that precedes snow and colder weather later in the week. Winter is not over.
Last night the 2 opossums were back. The baby ran up into a tree. The mother was running frantically to the right, the left, to the back, toward the house, going in circles. Then the baby must have made some noise because then she was down below him getting up on her 2 back legs and looking up at him. Finally she went up the tree and coaxed him down. Then he sat very obediently 4 feet from her while she cleaned up under the bird feeder. I wonder what kinds of noises they made as she scolded him. I've never heard opossums language. It was fun to watch anyway.
Love the finish and the colors are just gorgeous. I would love to see what some of your art quilters work on. I bet they are a very talented group of women.
The story of the opossums if funny. I can just visualize them in my head. The momma screaming "you get down from that tree now or you will be spending your time in your room".
Another completed quilt that glows with warm to hot colors. Narrow binding is perfect finish.
Love the possum story... I know all animals and birds communicate with each other. It is fun to watch all of our 'critters' and birds daily... All except the 50, yes 50 turkeys that stutted through the yard this morning. They are messy birds that have taken over our neighborhood.
Wanda, one of the reasons I read you daily is your photographs. I love that you document your work, which is wonderful, and your environment. I enjoy all your photos and your skill with your camera. Could you share with me what kind of camera you use and tell me a little about how complex it is to use?
I have a Hewlitt-Packard Photosmart point and click type digital camera...but I sometimes shake when I press the button so there is some fuzziness to my photos and I haven't yet mastered when to use flash and when not to so my colors are not accurate at all. I'm looking to buy a new camera and love your photos.
I used to raise baby possums for the local Wildlife Care Association. They make a "Phhht" sound - kind of like a little baby sneeze. One time I went to pick up a baby from a woman but it had escaped from a box she put it in. All we did was be quiet for a while and we located it on the back of her curtains near the top. It had climbed up there and was calling for it's mom with that soft sneezing sound!
I enjoy reading your blog on a daily basis. Your quilts are beautiful and so colorful. I love color as much as you do.
Sorry, I got caught up in other stuff this week and am just giong back to blogs. This quilt is wonderful, very compelling. I love the yellows in it. We have possums in our yard, too, and one fell into a window well. We have put up fences around them, but he just climbed over and tumbled down. Animal control got him out, but he was mad. I felt so bad for the poor thing.

ReplyDeleteSo what do possums eat when they don't have birdseed handy? Love the soft sneeze info... I've only seen them from a distance.
ReplyDeleteAnother finish - congrats!
I had some small labels long ago with my name stitched in, but they've disappeared. Sigh.
This quilt is just gorgeous! And I like the asymetrical aspect of the borders.
ReplyDeleteYes, I like it!!!
ReplyDeleteThe colours look lovely in that little quilt.
ReplyDeleteI would have enjoyed seeing the oppossums.
Loved your possum story. I love watching animals communicate - especially moms and babies. The quilt is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful quilt! This post also reminds me that I haven't labeled most of my wall hangings. Better get on that.
ReplyDeleteI love your woven labels. (You could use them as a "taggie" label for baby quilts that you give as gifts.)

Vibrant colours - truly stunning.
ReplyDeleteI like labels like that. A friend has got them too. Must make enquiries.
Cool, you've got something you can treasure for a lifetime. It's also nice to pass this on to someone you love.
