I really enjoyed all of the comments yesterday with a lot of ideas to try on this little piece. I really liked Julie's idea for adding an appliqued strip in the middle of a border. I just pulled scraps from the "too small to sew with" bag and laid them on the borders. I like the way the dots in the pink one on the right blend right in with the dots of the background. I think I will look through my batiks for some more dotted ones and then decide whether I want it multicolor like it is or just one color added to the borders. Then the decision of whether I will fuse or slice the borders and piece it in.....
It's my birthday today so I am going to spend the day rearranging the furniture in my studio. I have my sewing machine cabinet next to the window for 3 seasons, but I like it across the room in the winter in a warmer spot. I am so happy the furniture in that room is mostly all on wheels. It is just the other stuff that takes time to move.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WANDA !
ReplyDeleteThis little piece is blossoming.

I was in such a hurry to be the FIRST one to wish my friend a Happy Birthday I didn't get to send a proper comment about this piece that you have saved.
ReplyDeleteI know when this one is finished it is going to be as "Wandaful" as every piece you show us. Those added strips are a perfect addition.
wow, that really changes things! I like it now. http://patchesquiltworks.blogspot.com/2008/10/little-change-makes-big-difference.html
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, dear Wanda... Happy Birthday to you (best that you cannot hear me singing :-)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the transformation those border colors brought... and the comment about a little girl in galoshes splashing through puddles suits it to a "t" ~
Glad you have decided to keep playing!
I like!!!Wig.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!
ReplyDeleteWow, what wonders those border strips have wrought. Incredible!
Happy Birthday!! Enjoy yourself and continue doing what you like. I do like the quilt better with the strips in the border.
ReplyDeleteThe addition of the strips really is a wonderful (or shall I say Wandaful!) addition. The colors, placement are so playful and exuberant. They're perfect even though you said you just laid them on there.

I know that's what I do on *my* birthday.....move furniture and clean my workroom.........NOT
ReplyDeleteWhatever quilts your quilt, Wanda.

Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Wanda from one Scorpio (11-6) to another. No wonder we both like bright colours so much!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I really think the addition saved that piece (tho I liked it anyway....)

HAPPY HAPPY Birthday Wanda!!!!! Wishing you a lovely day doing whatever your heart desires. Is there cake in your future?
ReplyDeleteHAPPY Birthday Wanda,
ReplyDeleteThis little piece has blossomed with the addition of those stripes,so it is no longer a "lost cause" to be saved.
Have a GREAT day.
Louise
Happy Birthday Wanda!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Wanda! I always enjoy seeing what you are up to, love the latest piece. Jen
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Wanda!
ReplyDeleteIt is 15th here today, & is my sister's birthday.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU WANDA! Thanks for sharing that it is your birthday. I like the colorful strips in the border!

Happy Birthday Wanda!
ReplyDeleteIt is starting to look like a winner. (maybe every quilt you make IS a winner!)
Happy Birthday Wanda! Thank you for sharing another of your quilt gifts with us. I like the addition of the "scrap" pieces in the border, it ties the quilt all up.
ReplyDeleteHB Wanda!! Great use of colors in your scrappy quilt!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! This looks even better than before and you are adding to the scrappiness with the different colored strips.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you have to just let it lie there and look at it...try something else....look at it again...or just ask us!
Hi Wanda,
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I'm in Seoul so not sure what day your birthday falls on (it is Saturday the 15th here).
I love what you are doing with the "disaster" which shows not only your skill, but that anything can be redeemed!
hugs, Elsie
Wanda, I've almost missed my chance to wish you HAPPY BIRTHDAY on your actual birthday. Hope it has been a really fun one! Many, many happy returns of the day!
ReplyDeleteIt's really fun to read the comments from all the people who join me in admiring your works. Love those strips!!
Mary G.
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your quilts. You are a wonderfully creative individual
Happy Birthday, Wanda!
ReplyDeleteI liked the mini quilt before, and like it better now. The color on the border magically brings out the other colors.
Maybe you're gonna keep it now, huh?

I still like it, though I like it even better now.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful year of creativity and friendship. Happy birthday.
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI'd say these additions to the border make a huge difference - I love it now.
All the best, Wanda, for your birthday (a day late). I hope that your special day was what you wanted it to be.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!!! All the best. =)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday, Happy birthday , Happy birthday to you- I hope you had a great birthday and celebrated it with those that are special to you...
ReplyDeleteBirthdays are meant to be celebrated..
I hope that you are pleased with the changes you make in your sewing area..
The butterfly book is gorgeous and so is your little quilt..
Regards,
Anna
Amazing how the addition of 4 pieces of cloth can change a piece. It's really alive now. I liked it before, but now it's vibrant!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Wanda! (even if I am a day or so late!) from one Scorpio to another (11-11 for me) I hope you had a fun day and did what pleased you!
ReplyDeleteI really like the way the dotted fabric on the right side border of the little quilt looks - it almost appears translucent! What a neat effect! Those little strips are a great accent, although I loved it anyway! This is getting quite interesting.
Oh my gosh! Just look what you come up with when I don't regularly check blogs! I actually LOVE the piece!! It is so..alive and wild and combines chaos with order! It's great! And happy birthday. I hope you found the perfect furniture arrangement for this winter.
ReplyDeleteYour solution is perfect....I had to take a deep breath though when I read your previous post......"here is what I made last night." WHAT?? I wouldn't be able to pull fabrics, even for this size quilt in one evening...never mind stitch it. Beading decisions come easier for me! Happy B. Day!
