I trimmed the Kaffe Zipper quilt yesterday. I like the straight line quilting on it, quilted by longarm quilter Robin Diaz.
Since the edge of the quilt has the lightest and the darkest fabrics, I'm not sure what I will choose for the binding.
Last night while watching TV I did some sorting. The triangles are Marcia Derse fabrics. When I discovered the tray I noticed it had all dark fabrics and some already sewn triangle pairs so I cut some new light ones for variety. I'll use this as one of my mindless sewing sessions now that the new season of TV shows are on.
I'm still trying to decide where I'm going with this project. In the original Fractured quilt each block has a different background fabric. There are lots more dark fabrics to cut so they won't be repeated in blocks next to each other like you see here.
I started laying out the third background fabric and then it was time to quit for the night.
Today I hope to cut the rest of the dark fabrics.

How fun that the zipper quilt is almost done! I know you will find just the right fabric for the binding. What a pretty pile of pieces for your mindless sewing. There are so many directions you could go on the Fractures quilt top design. I could see you easily end up making three or four more of these trying out different fabric combinations.
ReplyDeleteYou're getting a lot of pre-sorting done for your upcoming projects, Wanda;)) I managed to go food shopping today so the hand is getting better--will be resting it for the rest of the day...
ReplyDelete45 here this morning--Frost is on the pumpkin here, for sure with a very cold NW wind gusting...Sweatshirt weather for me...and flannel shirts are out now...I do love Autumn..and the changing of the Seasonal quilts will take place later on this week..
hugs, Julierose
I agree the straight line quilting is perfect for your zipper quilt. And it looks like a challenge for your fractured pattern to me. But you know how much creating quilts I do.
ReplyDeleteI like that straight line quilting on the quilt it looks good.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are keeping busy and playing with delightful colors! Hope you find just the perfect binding fabric for your zipper quilt that works well with both light and dark fabrics in the outer border. You've a good eye for binding fabrics!
ReplyDeleteIt will be fun to watch how the fractured blocks come together.
Hugs!
