First finish for October 2026.....................

This quilt was created from a free pattern called Kaffe Fassett Zipper from Free Spirit fabric company.  It was intended to be used with a certain pack of fat quarters that was available at the time.  I ended up choosing fabrics from my ample stash of Kaffe collective fabrics.  I didn't have the exact value changes I needed in the purple and orange but it turned out okay.

The backing fabric was designed by Philip Jacobs.  It is one of my favorite prints of his.  The binding is by Brandon Mably.  The quilt is 58" x 80" and it has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it.  It is quilted in parallel lines 1/2" apart by Robin Diaz.

The binding is a large wild print  but it worked well with the front and the back of the quilt.

I took some closer photos of the fabrics.

The squares are a very dark brown in a print called Aboriginal Dot by Kaffe.

I have been checking my cacti closely because I know some of them start budding in October.  I haven't turned on my heat yet and it has been as low as 64 degrees some mornings.  Most mornings were around 66 in the living room.  I rarely have lights on in there so the cool temperature and more hours of darkness start the blooming season.

  3. FABULOUS finish - such a happy quilt from every angle. Wow - a bud on your cactus. Ours are happy but not budding yet - keeping an eye on them though.

  5. Lovely Zipper quilt finish, Wanda; all in the KF family, too...so pretty!!
My cacti are showing buds, too--first time in over a year--I warned DH not to move them--hoping for pretty blooms soon...
59 here and a few drops of rain have begun--just a smattering so far...this cooler, damp weather doesn't help the hands!! Warming them on an after lunch cup of tea...hugs, Julierose

  7. The quilt turned out great! I have all my cacti in now I see no buds but that is not unusually having just brought them in - none are in bright light now to wait and see how they do. I still have more to bring in but it is getting there not many left to work on now.

  8. What a bright and fun quilt! It turned out fabulous! I have got new growth on my Christmas cactus and I need to get the start I found into dirt. The bottle cap I put it in is just too small with all the roots that have grown.
