Mindless sewing.....again...................

Yesterday was a PT day so I have to be watching the clock.

One thing I did get done during the day was to layer several stratas, staggered by 1" and cut 2.5" segments from them.  I had sewn the 2 strips together and did the pressing last week.

Last night's mindless sewing was making the 80 four patches which will be used in 40 double 4 patch blocks.  I need to cut the 4.5" squares now from the 4.5" strips.

Part of the reason I didn't get much done yesterday was because of this morning entertainment.  A few months ago I showed how the city had cut the top of this tree off and left this huge trunk standing.  They had actually cut off part of it before I realized what that noise outside was.

At this point they have a rope tied around the top of the trunk, the rope then went around a big branch in the tree in the neighbor's yard, and then tied to to the front loader. He is cutting around the base of it now and they pounded in wedges on the right side and pulled it over to the left, with a big thud.

Bye, bye, tree.  They cut the stump down lower and it looks to be maybe 12" tall, spray painted orange with and orange cone sitting on top of it.  I guess that is to remind the neighbors not to back over that way.  It was overcast so they didn't need to worry about the sun getting in the eyes of the man with the chainsaw.

  1. Your 4-patches are so pretty in those lovely warm colors, Wanda. i have 2 more strata to press and cut for my 16-patch. Fun sewing...
17 this morning and obviously no melting at all. Our "fudgsicle" snow pack has stayed with us !!!
That is some big tree trunk they removed. I hate to see trees felled, but sometimes needs must, right?
Hoping your PT went well and is giving you some relief...
    Hugs, Julierose

  2. Seeing the logs in the truck bed sure gives perspective on how large that tree was. I set an alarm on my phone for appointments but still have to watch the clock so I’m not caught off guard and am ready to leave.

  3. Love your stratas and 4 patches. The colors are a delight!
Sorry for the loss of that wonderfully old tree. Hope area woodworkers can use the wood creatively for shelves or cabinets or furniture.
Our high today is forecast to be 47*F, yes please, and may the melting be complete. Yesterday it was a slippery thick ice coating and we didn't dare set foot outside.

    Hugs!

  4. Your prep work before “your mindless sewing” last night sure put on a grand show today. Fabrics always take center stage ~ wonderful colors.

City workers did a good job with the tree. Good to see the progressive photos.

  5. Those four patch blocks are so cute! Why on earth do they wait until freezing cold weather to take that tree down? It should have been taken down when they cut the top off! I guess that would make too much sense! LOL!! You have so much less snow than here.

  6. they most likely have a stump grinder coming out to finish the rest - a lot of times they do that - I watched the guy that came out to do several of ours and he left it to us for mulch but in a town area they probably carry it away unless the person whose yard it is in wants it for mulch.
