It's a quilt top......................

The last 3 seams were sewn yesterday and it's a finished quilt top, including the staystitching around the perimeter.  It is 64" x 72".  I really didn't think I was going to like it very much, but after it is sewn, yes, I do like it.  This is a bonus quilt, one not planned to be made.  It used 2.5" and 4.5" strips cut around 2009 and 26 sixteen patch blocks from the batik orphan block box.  That's a win!

Now I need to get back to cutting half rectangle triangles and get another quilt top finished.  Also on the agenda is basting a baby quilt to be quilted on my Pfaff.

They are predicting 60 degrees for Chicago but Weatherbug on my phone says 57 for us out in the boonies (60 miles west of Chicago).

  1. Temperatures in the 50’s, what a lovely relief! For a quilt that used what you found in your bountiful boxes, it’s beautiful….like sunlight through the trees.

  2. Bonus quilts can turn out to be the most fun, that's kinda the way my blue flimsy went just using up blue scraps

  3. the zigzags look great. Isn't the weather strange this year - the weatherman said not to be surprised if we hit 80 on Wednesday or Thursday this week - it just sounds unreal. Normally part of February will be warm and then cold and the same with March. Instead most of January was cold and February mild and are we going straight in spring or will March be cold - this year is a very different year with winter for a lot of us.

  4. What a wonderful quilt and I like Cherie's description of "sunlight through the trees"! I might add the "autumn" trees.
We have all day rain and a high of 48*F. Our turn for highs in the 60s*F starts on Tuesday.

    Hugs!

  5. I love this quilt--it came together so quickly and turned out great--Esp'ly with those 16-Patch borders--really nice one, Wanda;)))
37 here so hoping for some melting...awfully damp feeling out there when I went for my early morning "Paczki run" ;))); they will only be available until the 17th they tell me...soooo good...
I started a trial for a baby quilt, but ended up not liking how it looks--very dark...nothing seems to be looking very good to me lately...maybe a reflection on the times we live in?
Anyway--back to my beloved Ojos--they never disappoint...
    hugs, Julierose

  6. Gorgeous quilt, Wanda...of course, what else should I expect? What came to mind was the fields of sunflowers in the warm sunshine that one can find here in the fall. Nice job!

  11. The 16-patches were the perfect choice for the border and I really like this one too. We had a nice rainy day yesterday and ended up with 1/2 inch.
