Snow is the big news..........

Yesterday there was a little snow on the ground when I got up and it was light snow in the beginning.  This photo is from 10 yesterday morning.  By noon there was heavier snow.  By afternoon, there was a break in the storm and we were under that area.

This photo was at 6:30 last night when we had around 6" of snow.  On Chicago news they said my town had 7.2".  The snow total for a day in November may be broken in Chicago's records.

I spent the day sewing the columns and then sewing them to each other.  I finalized my ideas for 2 of the insert strips so it is sewn all the way to the third one which needs pressing before I can continue.  This quilt was a nice experiment, nothing more.  Someone will love it when it is finished.  More than half of the strips were already cut (and in a project box) and the rest were fresh cut strips.

I have one more day to finish November projects so my monthly recap may be on Tuesday.

  1. That’s a lot of snow you received….your lantern looks more than half covered. I see you went with 3,2,4,1 and it looks good. I feel like you are a magician, pulling quilt parts from your hat, uh, basement and finishing projects lickity split!

  2. 9" for us. I shoveled the front walk about noon and my neighbor snow-blew (snow-blowed?) the driveway shortly thereafter. Not that either of us were going out. I'll shovel again and hope he can snow-blow so I can go to church.

  3. WOW --lots of pretty snow, Wanda--gray here this morning and rain on the way this afternoon we are told. 44 degrees so no snow as yet here.
Your columns are coming together well and pretty quickly!
We will be watching Formula One racing this morning and i will be basting down a few flag bases for my daughter's requested Christmas bunting...her mantle is 74" so quite a bit wider than mine--figuring 9 flags in all...
    hugs, Julierose

  4. The insert strips make this quilt! I will have to steal/borrow that idea! I haven't left the house since Wednesday when I went over to the neighbors for Thanksgiving. I didn't even go outside to get the mail yet! I might have to get dressed and do that today. I have the space heater doing in my studio so it is nice and cozy.

  5. Your white lights in the snow are so pretty -- but that is a lot of snow! And you are so right that someone will LOVE the strippy quilt. It is gorgeous and so wonderfully scrappy.

  7. Your experimental quilt is looking wonderful and, you're right, someone will love it forever!
Ah, I was in high school in Elmhurst (suburb) on Jan. 22, 1967 when Chicago got 27" of snow in 24 hours, cars were parked on the Dan Ryan expressway, and homes were opened to strangers who were stranded. It became know as "The Big Snow" and it was. We still had a huge mound of snow on the "parkway" (grass between sidewalk and curb) in April. Memorable.

    Hugs!

  8. Yes! I like the quilt top as you have it on the design wall even if you need a little more work. The snow is beautiful but of course we say that the first times it happens in winter and then we yearn for spring. None here but woke up to 26 and frost on buildings and cars - Tomorrow might be sleet, snow, or ice - and will barely feel like 25 they say - hope it is not ice!!

  11. Brrrrrrr! My BIL who lives in Wisconsin texted me that they had 10 inches. It's pretty, buy I'm certainly not equipped to deal with it. Make this a fun sew day.
