It was an outside day.....................

It was in the high 70s yesterday so I decided to do some yard work.  First I raked leaves off the flowerbeds where the Brunnera and Lungwort are.  I only found one Lungwort plant in bloom but I'm sure several will follow soon.

The largest Columbine plant is growing fast.  I could see this one from the dining room window.  I got stung by a bee while picking up stacks of leaves in this flowerbed.

One of my Lenten Rose plants has flowers and more buds.  It is a burgundy color flower.  This is the plant that didn't do as well as the other 2 last year.  This year maybe it will be the overachiever.

I think the flowers on this Lenten Rose plant will be the pale green ones.  Maybe they are considered white but from last year I remember the green tint.  I need to rake the leaves out of this bed and cut down the dead leaves from last year.  Maybe this morning if the rain stays away.

I took down my bird feeders before one of our extremely windy days about 2 weeks ago.  I hung this one yesterday and within 15 minutes this raider was here.

Last night I sewed the binding on 2 more little pieces.  I consider the small one an oversized coaster (6.5"square) and the other a mug rug (a little over 8").

Here are the fabrics on the back of them.

I chose a binding for the next quilt in line to be finished.  I hope to get it cut today and sewn on to prepare for the hand stitching.

  1. Glad you had some garden time. Ouch on the bee sting! My biggest threat outside is chiggers, can you believe that? The first spring after we moved here, I sat down in the yard to do some weeding, like I've done all my life. The next day my whole bottom half was full of itchy chigger bites! I don't know why I'm suddenly allergic to them, but now I have to spray like crazy before I garden..

  2. Our Lenten roses have been very prolific this year. We have a squirrel-proof feeder, but they still try to get in! You'd think they would learn.

  3. Nice that you got out in your garden beds [not nice you got stung though!!]. Great little finishes to add to your pile of smaller pieces..
48 here and partly cloudy; just a little bit of rain last night--maybe .02"--seems this will be the last of the warmer days for a while...

  4. Love the colors and backings of the mug rugs!
Well done in making the most of the warm weather to accomplish outdoor tasks. We're starting to recover from the flu so it will be a while before we're tending to the flower beds and yard. 88*F here today and 60*F overnight.

    Hugs!

  5. We've been told not to put out our bird feeders because it spreads the avian flu. Too bad. The finches were so fun to watch. I like your large mug rug especially the back fabric.

  6. Sounds and looks like good workout yesterday. Uncovering your plants for the season. A bee sting so early in the season surprised me. It’s your warm days that brought him out. And your resident squirrel just couldn’t resist trying to steal a treat. Those critters drive me crazy along with the deer.

I’m happy you still had some steam left to work on your stunningly beautiful ‘littles’ last night. Nice way to end your day.

  7. those darn squirrels seem to just know when a feeder has been put out and get to it before the birds do. you have a lot growing now too - week by week nice weather is getting closer and closer and then we will complain (or I will) that it is too hot and humid.

  9. It looks as though you have a pinkablue lungwort (pulmonaria). I want to get one (or more) of those for our courtyard this year. I’ve never been a fan of the hellebores (Lenten roses), though. In our courtyard, I’m torn between planting up a large shade garden or getting our Japanese maple pruned extensively to give us more sunlight. Luckily, I don’t have to make that decision for a few more weeks!

  10. The mug rugs are so pretty! It is fun to find things growing back. I spotted a couple more daffodils that were transplanted by the squirrels.
