A good sewing day..............

I got the pieced border sewn onto this quilt top yesterday.  Now the tricky part will be getting an accurate measurement for the last 4" border of the same print as the first border.  I don't want it ruffled but I don't want it too tight either.  I will probably baste it on with a long stitch to check if it is the right length before sewing the permanent seam.
I finished quilting this one and sewed on the binding.  I have started the hand sewing on it.

I have had these 2 pieces of cactus rooting in water for close to a year on the left one and about 2 years on the one on the right.  I really must get them planted but now I'll have to wait until after they bloom.

Oh, I love that quilt. A tip: measure at the middle of the quilt, and cut the last border just that length. Good luck.

I've got the same problem on my window sill - a cactus cutting with buds that's been in water all year, but at least it looks more healthier than the mother plant haha. Loving your new quilt - good to see you are keeping busy :)

LOVE how you set the triangles for the border! I am also intrigued by the block. Does the quilt block have a name?

The quilt is magnificent! What a terrific border. How do you figure the first border width so that the pieced border will meet at the right spot in the corners with no partial blocks? Can't figure that out.

The border fits this top perfectly. It’s so pretty. My two cactus have many buds on them but they haven’t opened yet. I bought a light one yesterday with many buds and by the time it came home, most had fell off. ☹️.

I root my cactus cuttings directly in potting soil, so no repotting is necessary. They root quite easily. I have a quilting friend who wants some small cacti to replace the ones she sacrificed when she moved, so I'll be starting some for her after Christmas.
I have trouble getting pieced borders to fit.

I did not know Christmas cactus could be rooted in water! See, you've shown me something else new. I like the border you've put on the quilt at the top of the post. Adds a lot of interest.
