No matched blocks......

In the end I just couldn't do the matchy-matchy blocks (see yesterday's post).  I played with the quarter blocks on the design wall and decided to group the blocks by value changes in the yellow backgrounds.  The colors are truer on yesterday's photos too.  This is all ready to sew together today.

We have broken the high temp records for 3 days in a row with the 60+ degree days.  Now they are predicting 70 for Wednesday.  I'm hoping the flowering trees and bushes don't get their buds all formed because we will get cold weather again starting next weekend.

I like this new layout, a lot! The matchy layout didn't do much for me either. I guess it's the scrappy nature of our hearts speaking to us!

I like this arrangement a lot. And of course the value play makes it all the better.
Trees here are blooming and it will be near 80 by Wed. Easter is late this year so I expect we are going to have a colder end to winter.

Absolutely perfect, I love this arrangement too. I remember one spring when the roses started to bloom and then we had a terrible snow and ice storm, put everything back all year and some died right away.

It looks much more Wanda/Exuberant this way.

we are hoping we do not get a freeze again this winter - too many things are budding out already - we drove to Little Rock on Friday and saw trees blossoming out so ours will not be far behind - 70's all week expected possibly even close to 80 my Thursday

The mixed up version does work better. I don't buy pre-cuts, but I do have a stack of small 4" square pre-cuts I have accumulated from swag bags. One thing I noticed is that all 4" pre-cuts are not the same size between different manufacturers.

Your comment about not being able to do it made me laugh! Great job!

I really like the layout of the light yellows vs the darker ones. Nice arrangement for color interest and movement.

Arranging the blocks based on the background really calms it down, doesn't it?

The colors are oh so better this way. Yesterday I was driving back from my daughter south of Erie, PA back to Buffalo, and the variety of neutral tones and textures made the landscape breathtaking. In nature, variation on a color theme is always apparent.

OH YEAH ~~~ You really 'hit the nail on the head' with this one. (*._.*) Another spectacular work of art. Love the yellow back ground complimenting the dark pieces perfectly. Really brightens a dreary February day for me.

I never had a chance to comment on yesterday's post - you're way too fast for me! And now the quilt is practically done! It is a nice quick little pattern. I've seen similar ones by othres lately. As the precut are popular, so would a pattern like this be. I'll keep a picture of your quilt top handy in case I need to make a strippy quilt.
I'm off to QuiltCon in Savannah leaving here in a little while, so, while I'll still read along, I might be quieter for a while.

I am glad you went this route, also. I like it much better than the matchy way. I love to see the things you do. You have such a good eye. I think I could learn a lot from you. Still praying for your eyes. How have they been?
