Company to sew with..........

My youngest granddaughter came over to sew yesterday.  She wanted to make some Christmas gifts so my gift to her was all of the fabric she wanted to use.  She created 4 items which are secrets in case any of the recipients read my blog.  While she was here she put up an 8' fluorescent bulb for me and helped carry the serger cabinet (heavy!!) and chest to the basement for me.  We went out for lunch too.  It was a fun day!
We had all five boxes of flannel fabric out.  After she left I pulled out all of the scraps and filled the bin at the bottom of the photo.  I am going to start cutting a flannel quilt from the scraps after Christmas.

That day sounds like a real treasure.....full of fun and memories besides the treat of seeing another generation sew.

It sounds like just a wonderful day Wanda, and a perfect gift too. If I came over to sew could I use any of your fabrics? :D

Love the idea of a flannel quilt - I came into a pile of hardly worn flannel shirts and cut them up to make a mixed plaid shirt for myself, which is perfect....now to make the scraps from THAT into a quilt.....of course it might be that I will need another pile of hardly worn shirts!

My first thought as the page loaded was "oooh nice serger!" Mine is the much less expensive Brother model that is sold in big box stores.
I have one niece that I have sewn with and we had fun making a present for one of her friends.

Good morning Wanda......What a great day spent creating memories, especially for your granddaughter, who will remember that day, long after you and I are both at the sewing room in the sky. None of my grandchildren ever took an interest in sewing of any kind, so I was a little disappointed. Stay warm.

You helped her with her gifts and she helped you with your "chores". You had fun on top of all that... sounds like the recipe for a perfect day!!

Sounds like fun was had by all. And a chance to shop through a personally curated fabric stash like yours is a great gift. Hope you enjoy many more times together.

How nice to have sewing company and get a few other jobs done!

Sounds like a terrific day. My granddaughter is 4 1/2 and I have tried to interest her in sewing. I have a handcrank machine for teaching and I tried to get her to sew pillowcases for her family. I glue the seams with washable Elmer's glue instead of pins. But after dragging everything out, she said "No thank you" and went off to do something else.

That's the best kind of sewing day! It sounds like you two got a lot accomplished and enjoyed the company as well.

I think it's wonderful that your granddaughter shares your love of sewing. I could never get my daughter to take an interest on any of my needle craft loves.
xx, Carol
