A quilt top.....and some playing..........

As promised I sewed the last four seams yesterday.   Everything fit perfectly, no trimming needed.  I did a row of staystitching around the outside perimeter to keep seam ends from popping.  It is 54" x 66" right now.

Then I experimented with borders.  I have lots of pieces that are lengthwise grain and are leftover from either backings or from border fabric from another quilt.  What if I did a scrappy 8" wide border?  I will be looking for more of the pieces today while I contemplate this.

What ifs turn into why nots. You have the knack of making it look like it is suppose to. Looks like it works to me anyway. Have fun looking. Chris

As far as I'm concerned, I don't think it needs any border, Just a nice bright binding, what do you think?

I love it just the way it is! An outside border with a print would overwhelm the pattern. A solid or tone on tone would work well if you feel the need for a border, would be calm next to the busyness of the field. Whatever you chose I know it will be a beauty!

I have to say, I think the scrappy border looks too much like an afterthought.

I agree with the rest of the group Wanda.....it really doesn't need a border, but in the end, it's entirely your choice. Enjoy the weekend. We are in Wisconsin but returning home today.

I love it as is. Scrappy border is jarring to me. If anything, I'd do just a binding I'm thinking even a black and white print... or something in the reds. Just MHO.

I like the lower right side fabric for a border. To me it does not compete with the piecing. Of course, I know that you will make your own wonderful decision; after all, you are Exuberant Color.

Love all the blocks finished and sewn together. I'm not keen on the large scrappy border; maybe a thinner one of just one fabric? Looking forward to seeing the end result and what you've decided :) ...enjoy the rest of your weekend.

understand the need for a border to make it larger, but agree with most here, keep it thin and of the fabrics you have shown, the gold, blue or green tones work the best. Love the quilt w/o borders though

I love it. Nothing beats a good string quilt. Been visiting regularly; but at a distance. Taking care of Bob and don't usually have time to comment. xoxo

I sure love it! I'm usually all for scrappy but not sure about this one. It would be a great way to use those pieces but I see it more with a border of one fabric,
What do you think?

This is a stunner as I have said before, and think it could just go with having a binding on or a one fabric border. I think a mix of fabrics around the body of the quilt draws attention away from the riot of colour in the quilt.

I'd pick a main color that stands out to you from the strips and use it in a border no thicker than one of the strips.

Or a black, bias-tape sized one. No scrappy border, as so many others have said. Takes away from the quilt top.

I vote for no borders....it is busy enough already..

i really like the scrappy border that you have laid out with your quilt top. I am not always a fan of borders and often prefer just a binding around the edge. But in this case, I really do like the borders using the different fabrics, just as you have them in the photo! Love the quilt top! jspwarren at aol dot com

Love the quilt top, not so much the borders, think they detract from the wonderful top, would like to see black borders, framing all those magnificent colours. And, yes, I would snuggle under that glorious colour and be warmed by it.
