HSTeria Quilt Along.......

Vicki Welsh is sponsoring another quilt along, this time it is triangles.....one of my favorite shapes.  I have the HSTeria logo button on my right side bar.  If you click on it you will go to all of her posts related to the quilt along so you can see what everyone else is making.  She mentions the book at the left and I happen to also have the two books that inspired that book.  I worked with the red cover book extensively when teaching workshops in the early 1990s and made several quilts using the design elements.  In 1999 the book on the left was published and I taught from it too and made at least 4 quilts.  Here is one of them.

In all three books is a chart of 256 different combinations of 4 squares that are made from half square triangles (HST).

I am using one of the quilts in the Hooworth and Rolfe book as my inspiration for the first one in this quilt along.  It is square but I'm modifying it to be rectangular.  These are the 2 blocks that I'm using and they are 3" finished triangles.  You can use any size you want however.

I have been cutting up my scraps into triangles for quite awhile so I took them with me to our twice monthly sew in and pieced the units.  Last night I finished the last few I needed and went to the design wall.  I will look at this again today to see if I have any that need to be moved to a different position.
I started making these "little bits" back in 2010.  They are 2.5" square.  I'm still trying to decide what to do with them so I cut some 1" finished triangles for star points and made one block.  No, I don't think I want to piece that many 4" finished stars.  I'll keep playing with ideas.

I have the book called "crystal Piecing', maybe I should take a closer look.... It has been a few years and I might have new eyes!

Love the stars. Piece 4 together then make your star. Or make some small ones and large ones to work into a quilt. Have fun with them. Chris

I love it! so many people use paper for foundation when doing hst's - do you use a foundation or sew without? sometimes I do and sometimes I don't

Fun post to look at today Wanda. Surprising to see so many designs from the triangle. Of course your fabrics make the design's even better.

Beautiful colorful quilt top in progress! Love those tiny blocks. They are so cute. I could see them made into wonky mug rugs.
