For a friend......

I wanted to straighten up the basement today while I did a load of laundry.  A friend who is making a cathedral window quilt wanted to know if I had any scraps to share so I gathered quite a few as I straightened several areas.  She is picking them up this morning.
I noticed the evening primrose was starting to bloom so I took my camera out and walked around the house.
I was shocked to see that this hosta that was perfectly fine on Wed. morning is now suffering from sunburn.  I guess I will have to dig it up and move it.  I hope we get some rain too.  I haven't had to water hostas for a couple years and didn't think about it yesterday.  It was 90 degrees and full sun all day.
A friend gave me this hosta and she called it big blue.  It is also suffering from sunburn so I will be digging today.

Your friend will love the fabric. I hope you can get your digging done before it gets too hot today!

several of my hostas are suffering, we are officially in a drought now here in Arkansas, I lost track when we had rain last. I hate to constantly have to water things but it looks like this summer I will need to. Hot and dry and is the upcoming forecast.

I went out last evening to hack at a couple of thistle coming up and the ground is so dry! We could use a 3 or 4 day soaker type of rainfall. I guess I need to get my water buckets set up and start storing rainwater for the summer that is if we ever get any rain!

We have been watering for days. We had more rain in the month of May than normal but all before the 9th. The hot winds are terrible on plants. Chris

It's amazing what a difference was made by removing those trees!

That will be a stunning Cathedral Window quilt.

Is the sunburn due to the loss of the shade from the trees?

You are such a nice friend to share your wonderful scraps... And cut yet too, if she doesn't need to resize them.

Here you are in a heat wave again, and we are in very cool rainy days.

Oooh, your friend is going to have a stunning Cathedral Windows quilt with those beautiful scraps in it!
We're supposed to get rain later today/tonight -- I hope you get some too so your plants get lots of water the easy way.

Sorry to hear about your hostas, Wanda.
Our temps here are hot, also. Pulled out the hose so I could water yesterday after lunch.
Haven't checked them things look today, yet.

Big Blue is a gorgeous hosta, Wanda, and it does like to be in the shade.

Your friend will receive a nice selection of fabrics for her Cathedral Window. Too bad your hostas are suffering from too much heat. We are experiencing winds and cold. My hubby is thinking about turning on the heater!

Hi Wanda,
I haven't noticed burning on my hostas yet (we had some trees removed last year, too). I'll watch for that, now.
My hostas got nipped by that last frost we had and they're going to look a little "off" the rest of the season, I'm afraid (they are in the total shade, by the way).
