Orange progress and quilting.....

I put the large design batik on the wall and then put the blocks I have made so far on top of it to see if I like it.  I'm going to have to look at this for a couple days.  I have enough strip piecing to make 2 blocks alike of each combination and I have about 6 more combinations to sew yet.
I looked through all of my regular quilting fabrics and only came up with 2 that might work with the batiks.  The rest of them had too much yellow or leaned too far toward red orange.
This is the next quilt in line for quilting.  You may recognize it as 'my second favorite' on my right side bar of the blog.
I decided I wanted to quilt close lines with matching thread in each of the pieces.  I started out with dark rose thread and quilted all of the pieces of that color, then went to a green with a hint of blue and did all of those, then orange, and finally light pink.  I have a long way to go on this one.  I quilted for 2.5 hours while I watched TV and am about 1/4 of the way done.

I really like the effect of the quilting. The idea of the color to match is interesting also. You must be using the spray basting adhesive also. Chris

Good gosh. That's a lot of starts and stops. It will be smashing but that would kill my shoulders. Are you tied to one thread or do you collect all kinds? I am an aurafil thread snob for the most part. I suspect your threads are another 'envy' point for some of us. I do love this quilt and if it's your favorite, it's worthy of special attention. Is it headed to NC too? Jan

I love the orange just like it is. Is it overpowering in person?

Loving the orange quilt! It will be quite juicy when you are done!! The quilting is going to look great on your second favorite quilt. It is funny, I guess I always assumed it was already quilted.

I love the orange quilt. I have been collecting orange fabric for awhile, and need it might be time to make a quilt with all the oranges. Great job on the quilting - I love the look of that quilt.

It is interesting to see the various saturation of color in the orange quilt.

Did you use a fusible batting with the other quilt? This will look so cool when done.

Do you sleep at night...how and when do you come up with all these wandaful ideas? :D

That orange sure makes for a great late winter project...makes me smile just looking at what you have done so far!

I LOVE the orange! That is going to be one "feel-good" quilt! It makes me happy just looking at these squares!

Oh, that orange! Personally, I would add in a few of those "other oranges". Or are you wanting that feel of a textured solid? (That's how it reads to me because all the oranges are so similar.) I love the texture I would get if I added in the yellowy and red oranges in bits. (Not that your way isn't gorgeous!)

ORANGE is the color of the year ! From home decor to plants in the nursery. I am not a big orange fan but oh my gosh the piece you are working on takes my breath away... It is gorgeous.

I really like your stitches on "my second favorite" quilt. That is a real time consuming chore to change thread so often. But it will be well worth it when complete.

I love the orange! An underutilized color, I believe. And the other scrap quilt is scrumptious! You turn out such amazing work.

I'm not an orange person, but love what you are doing. I have many green/aquas, maybe I will try this. Your "2cd" looks like another winner. My favorite is H, I give it 5 stars!

Wow, what a painstaking way of quilting - didn't it drive you mad changing threads all the time?

Oh, I love, love, love the organge batik in progress.

The matching thread quilting is time consuming for sure, but it really looks great!

It looks like you sewed along the edges first before beginning the quilting? Why is that?
