A little more orange......

I have added 4 more blocks to the mix and opened up the large print to see more of it in the layout.  I don't think I want that much of it showing and I only have a little over a half yard.  I can get 5 squares out of one strip of 8.5" so I can only have 10 squares total in the quilt.
Here is an alternate fabric that I tried for the plain squares.  I like the contrast but there is too much brown in the print.  Dark orange is rust which goes into brown and I don't want to go there.  I want the quilt to remind me of orange juice.
This is one of the best parts of a new project: seeds for more original art.  Some of it will make its way into crooked cobblestones, the rest - more fun.
Here is the yellow quilt I made in 2009.  I still haven't taken a better photo of it.
I made this red quilt in 2007 from triangles I cut in the late 1990s, mostly calico type prints.  It is another that I need a better photo of.  I need to put something gray next to it so the camera can read the color right.  Then I will crop the gray out of the photo.  I guess you can see my favorite side of the color wheel, the warm colors.  I have blues, turquoises and greens cut but don't have enough of any of them yet to start the quilts.  I am making the one color quilts all lap size.

Since you do not care for the fabric choices the good thing is it works someplace else. You will find it and then be pleased. Chris

I have a difficult time doing monochromatic work, whether in art (painting) or quilting. I love to see how other people succeed in it.

Monochromatic is difficult for me too, although I love it. I see exactly what you mean about the print with the brown tones, but I'm not sure I'd pick it out.
I love the orange!

I agree with the others. Working with one color is very difficult for me. I've made one blue quilt top, but the blues were in a jelly roll, coordinated by someone else.
Love how your orange is going together. Very nice solid blocks. Yellow and red quilts are awesome.

I like the "one-color quilt" idea. There's something very relaxing about playing with the colors and making new decisions as you go. I haven't done one yet, mind you, but I'm thinking about it for this summer.

Looking at the glorious orange makes me almost think I don't need my morning orange juice! It is so wonderfully alive and summery, and just the perfect colour for this time of year!

I'm really enjoying your series of one color quilts. I think it's very hard to make pleasing quilts in one color, and you're doing it so beautifully! Very inspiring. Thank you!

I'm liking how the orange is coming together. I'd rather watch your fabric choices than anyone else I can think of, including and especially me!

No matter what quilt you're making you always inspire me. I love this little "ray of sunshine".

Thank you for sharing your thought process - I agree about not using that alternate fabric.

Love the orange juice analogy.

Oh - I'm so glad you posted these. I've been thinking about making a yellow quilt and picked up a whole mess of yellows and oranges recently. It's a bit of a challenge because I'm not used to working with such bright colors... I'm going to have to pay attention to the contrast so it's not overwhelming.

Love your orange quilt-to-be, and the yellow squares quilt, both sure to cure seasonal affective disorder!

Hi Wanda,
I'm not an orange person but your quilt in progress is twisting my arm (I used to have to wear an orange and white striped tunic over brown pants, every day behind a deli counter, and I blame that for my orange aversion).
Can't wait to see how this progresses.
Keep warm!
