What a day.......

I started out the day putting away Christmas decorations, then going 3 places trying to find fake rings to put on a ring bearer's pillow and not finding them. (A reader is going to get some for me and mail them to me. Yay!!!) I came home at lunch time and walked into the living room and saw these dark stripes on the carpet.  It was the vacuuming marks but why were they so dark?  I touched it and it was wet.  My first thought was that I had over watered a plant but there weren't any plants near this.  Then I went over to the little door to the hot water pipes and one of the bleeders was leaking.  This is almost 4 weeks after I got the new pump installed and he told me to check the bleeders for a couple days and then put the covers back on.
The 2 little pointy things are the bleeders, one for each direction of the line at this point.  The one on the right was leaking.  I called the plumbing and heating guy and luckily he was in my town working and was able to get here in about a half hour.  He ended up having to put a plug on it because he couldn't get the style bleeder he needed at the hardware store.  The good news is there is no more leak; the bad news is that all of the water was rusty and I have permanent stains in my carpet.  I have been wanting to tear out the carpeting and put in bamboo floors.  Maybe this is a sign that it is time.
I had an electrician coming at 3 to hang new lights in the basement and replace a ballast in my main floor studio.  While I waited for him I was looking through all of my button boxes for something to use for the rings on the ring bearer pillow and I came across this token.  I looked it up on the internet and it is an early 1900s slot machine token.  My grandpa must have given it to me when I was a kid.  Nice find but still no rings.
While the electrician was here I made the ring bearer's pillow out of my DIL's wedding dress for my granddaughter's wedding in January.
The lights on the left are the new lights, 2 four foot fixtures with the new skinny bulbs in them.  I'm so glad I covered my quilting machine!  I have needed more light here for 3 years and finally I had it done.

Gosh, did you check in the scrapbook department for the rings? Or do you have a party paper shop there? There should be something in the wedding/anniversary dept. Maybe the toy dept.

Here's to a better day today!

Another thing that could be used is curtain rings for cafe curtains. I used some one time but sprayed then silver. They are the plastic ones we use to use. There is a product called Whink. It is used to take out rust stains on fabrics and upholstery. It is a liquid. Might work on carpet. Chris

Sounds like you had a very busy, but ultimately satisfying, day.

Maybe a special carpet cleaner can get the stains up seeing as they haven't been there for a really long time? Pretty pillow.

Oh What a day. Is the carpet no covered by contents insurance when you have a leak?????

Lovely ring bearer pillow and how special to be made out of your DILs dress.

Your new lights look like they will really be great.
sew good to have plenty of light over your frame.

Good lighting makes all the difference. Sorry about the stains on the carpet. Maybe today will be easier.

How annoying! But, maybe now you get the floor you want! We had a kitchen fire a couple years ago. Rather than replace all the kitchen cabinets, we fixed the one, painted, and I got the tile floor I wanted throughout the house! (FL sand is hard on floors.) Meanwhile, fake rings can be found in the little machines outside stores, that kids beg a quarter for. Although, it looks like you came up with a good plan B.

It dawns on me, if it is a very young child carrying the pillow, you could barely baste the ring on, so that it would pull off easily, but not fall off.

What a bummer. It's good that you had not gotten the bamboo floors yet! Now seems to be the perfect time.

The pillow is very pretty. I would definitely say it's a sign that it's time for new floors! We're planning on having those kind of lights over my HQ too....some day, seems like with winter we're in 'stall' mode. Ah plus we're outa $ for a bit. sigh.

Check out WalMart or other 'inexpensive' store. You can often find 'cheap' jewelry.

What a day! I hope today will be better for you. Your pillow is lovely. I used my wedding dress for my daughter's ring bearer pillow too, but we put the real rings on it.

We used plain plastic gold tone rings on our wedding favors. I'm thinking I have more than a few left over. Would you like me to send a handful?

Also, try oxyclean on your carpet. It might get out the rust stains.

And, as I have never commented on your blog before, I just want to say, I'm a displaced western burb gal - I grew up in North Aurora and now live in northern lake county. Love hearing about your local adventures

I'm so sorry to hear about the rust stains in your carpet, but you might try Nature's Miracle "odor and stain remover" which I use primarily for kitty accidents, but which works on a LOT of other stains. The pillow is very sweet, and the new lights will be wonderful for your eyes. Take care!

OMG... Wanda ~ so glad your plumber was in town today. My husband takes care of all of those heating/plumbing issue's and I better take heed and ask him to show me how things work around here. Hopefully I will never have to know what to do BUT ~ you never know.

Wedding ring pillow is gorgeous ! Even more special that it was made from her mom's wedding dress (it was wasn't it ?) And by her grandma.

I love your new lights in your lower studio. The older I get the more light I need.

p.s. " WINK " probably will take out those rusty stains. But I vote for the new Bamboo floors if you can do that.

Interesting tokens.

Well I see the positives out weighing the negatives in this post. You got your lights in, a viewer has found the rings for you and you have a good reason for your new floors and you will love them! All good.

If you can't find the rings check out the Fox Valley area for a Party Store. They have packages of them. Or how bout a jewelry ring. Maybe you could find one big enough.

For some reason I am not getting notification of your writing in your blog so I am a little late in writing this.

Forgot to say what a beautiful pillow and what a great idea to use Mom's wedding dress for it.
