Where there's a will, there's a way........

The area in my basement where I have a ceiling (drywall) is the eating area when my group is here.  It is also the area the pool table and another cutting table are located.  It is about 15' x 30' and is the only part of the basement where dirt doesn't sift down through the floor boards onto everything.  I moved the first wire rack over there last week, one was already in that area, and there was just one more piece of wall space for another shelf unit.  This piece is from my quilt shop in the early 1980s.  I forgot how heavy it was until I started to move it 45' from another corner of the basement.
I remembered my little wheely thing so I tipped the shelf unit over on its side and put this under the center of it.  It didn't work.  The shelf unit just kept sliding off of it instead of pushing it.  I had to put one foot on the edge of it and push it along.  It only took a few minutes to get it over to the new location.
Then I started the load bearing exercise that is supposed to support our bone health.  I made 10 trips up and down the basement stairs carrying these fabrics down from the main floor studio.  Fabric is heavy!  I do most of my cutting in the basement since I have 3 tables with 6' cutting mats on them.  You can see by the clock I finished at 11 p.m.

We were pretty busy at the Quilter's Heart going out of business sale yesterday but there is still a lot of good stuff left at 40% off.  Batting is not included in the sale since Sandy will continue quilting for people in the same location.

You must have been pretty tired by the end of your day! But how lovely to have all your fabric sitting on shelves so that you can see it and it makes sense to have it close to where you're doing your cutting. I didn't know that you had previously owned a quilt shop.

Super woman! I know I try taking on to much at times by myself and you end up getting it done. If there is a will there is a way. Chris

Your stamina is amazing....I would have probably given out by the 3rd or 4th trip up and down after moving furniture. Glad you solved that problem! Love the stash, too.

You sure got your exercise yesterday! Is the Quilter's Heart the place where you have been teaching? Mom and I visited a shop about 2 hours from here yesterday. They don't have a notice that they are going out of business but the shop is half empty and very dark. I can't imagine that it's viable for much longer.

sometimes I wonder if going up and down stairs really does help! You got a lot done - your basement must be just about transformed now.

You are really moving along with your work on the studio.
Is that a huge painting on the wall to the left of the shelving unit?

Way to go!!! Those buggers are super heavy. I have one in my sewing room too. Have you ever used those silicone sliders? They are amazing. I'm not sure they would move a 4,000 lb car like they advertise, but they are great for things like that. That was definitely a long day of manual labor for you.

You are either going to kill yourself or live forever with that kind of exercise routine! (I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the latter.)

Good work out that is for sure. You made me feel good showing us you moved a big heavy piece of furniture. I know how heavy those units are. We sure can not do the things we use to in our youth. I know that too. I am always waking up with bruises wondering ... now where did that come from ? I had a week like that last week getting my yard art put away for the winter.

It looks like it has been there forever. I know you are happy to have moved it. So what is behind the center door ? (*._,*)

You're right about how much fabric weigns, and you always amaze me with the amount you get done! Do you want to spend a week or two with me at my house? I'd let you do whatever you want to in the quiltmaking process: coordinating fabrics, cutting, sewing, arranging, baking cookies... you name it!!

YES! You called it your "wheely thing" ... I get laughed at, but that's what I call our's, too!

Congratulations on the completed move. Hope there are no sore muscles today.

I'm trying to imagine how much more you'll be getting done with the fabric moved and arranged so prettily. There'll be no slowing you down.
That weight-bearing exercise did indeed make a difference for me. Three years ago our city had flooding galore, even in homes that had never seen a drop of water in the lower levels, like ours. As the clean water slowly flowed from room to room, I threw fabric into large plastic bins and scurried up stairs and out to the dry garage as fast as I could. I lost 10 pounds that weekend. It was wonderful for conditioning!

Your fabric stacks are impressive!

Wanda, you make me laugh. That looks so like something I would do. Mr. Muddling gets so mad at me when I do things of that sort, but I just want it done right now. I'll bet you did, too!

I'll bet you were tired and sore today after all of that physical labor! But how nice to do some rearranging from time to time. Thanks also for the photos of your garden; I just got to the whole week's worth of blogs today. Thank heavens for seasons; there is constantly a palette of pretty colors to see.

What a great accomplishment- I love seeing your beautiful stacks- you do have such wonderful colorful fabric to play with- Hope you have a great quilting week.

I love the cacti- ours is not blooming yet but I noticed some tiny buds on them so perhaps sooner than we expected.
Warmest regards,
Anna
