Planning time

I love quilts with lots of triangles.  Sometimes I have patience making the blocks and other times I don't.  I think I am ready to do one of these again.  Mine won't be navy blue and beige though.

I purchased two new rulers that will help me be more accurate.  They are the same principle as Thangles as the fabrics are cut from 2.5" strips instead of 2-7/8" strips.  I won't have to spend all of that time tearing off paper but I will have to be careful to sew them accurately.  The larger one is designed to be used with two 2.5" strips sewn together but it will work for plain 4.5" fabric strips too.  You do your cutting with the fabrics already paired and right sides together so they are ready to sew after they are cut.

On this quilt I hope to use the concept of using my 'favorite' fabrics instead of saving them for some unknown project in the future (or letting them be in my estate sale some day).

My theroy is if you use your favorite fabrics all the more reason to go out and buy some more you might like better. Cool looking rulers let us know how they work. Chris

The rulers are pretty neat! Can't wait to hear more about them!
I agree with the using up favorite fabrics.. So proud to say that I have not bought a single quarter lately!

Interesting ruler, I have never seen such a thing!

Your quilt will be much more interesting as far as color goes. Do you think you will use batiks or Kaffes? I have seen the rulers, but have not tried them. I will be curious to hear how you like them.

Please post a picture or two of how a person would use these rulers. I have never heard or seen them before. We all are guilty of saving our favorite fabrics for just the perfect quilt. I am with you - use them!

I too love a triangle quilt (the one in the book is especially nice) but I'll be watching you on the sidelines.

I have that book.
There is a new triangle group on Connecting Threads where that ruler was introduced. Can't wait to see your quilt.

Whoa - those are cool-looking rulers which I have never seen before! And I like triangles in quilts; I've just never settled on a method of making them, but now I'm intrigued. Who makes these rulers? And might there be a tutorial in our future? :-)

Oh, I just love new tools! Like everyone else I'd like to see how you use them. Maybe you could provide us a link to purchase them?

I have not seen rulers like that either and would love to see how you use them. I love triangles too, but I usually make them a bit bigger than called for and cut them down to the right size. That makes for a lot of extra work.

I bought the 2.5 inch ruler when it first came out, and still haven't used it. Wanda, you sure not how to inspire me !

I can't wait to hear about how those rulers work. I have an omnigrid triangle ruler and use it a lot, so if yours are easier, I'd love to know.

You always have something interesting to show. Can't wait to see which of your favorites you use for this new quilt.

The rulers are intriguing!!! Do share process as you start to use them! Love these new gadgets...especially if they allow us to lose that dreaded paper-ripping! Kudos for using your treasured fabrics...!!!

I am trying to imagine how those rulers work. You will have to do a tutorial on them for us. I love that quilt.

Hope you'll share what you think of the rulers and how they were to use. I just finished a quilt with lots of 2 1/2 inch triangles done without thangles or a special ruler and trimming them was not very fun.

That last comment is too funny. I spend too much money buying my favorite fabric, and then won't use it. Go figure... look forward to this one.

What a great tool to use for the quilt you plan to make.

I love new accessories that will aid in the workroom or kitchen. And these really caught my eye, before I even read what you had to say about them. Where did you find them ?

So what colors are you going to use? I like that blue and brown - would be a good guy quilt, but I'm expecting your usual exuberance!

I love looking at quilts with triangles like that and keep thinking I should make one -- perhaps something along those lines shall be a try-out of my machine piecing abilities. LOL

This seem like a perfect tool - you just layer the two fabrics right sides together, and cut along the jagged edges of the ruler, right? Is the book based on these rulers? What is it called?

I just bought two of those rulers that other day! I bought the trapezoid and the 60 degree triangle one. They are great so far! My accuracy is much better! And YES to using those 'favorite' fabrics NOW. You made me laugh about using them or selling them at your 'estate sale'...you are an amazing woman!

Interesting rulers. I like the idea of using up fabric now. There is lots more where that came from.

I have not seen these rulers before. You will have to show us how they work!

That's a great quilt pattern...I can't wait to see what your favorite fabrics are, and how you'll make that pattern YOUR quilt. I know it will be colorful and beautiful!
