And then the electricity went out...........

What a day yesterday was.  It started out good.  I received the hand dyed fabric that I won in Vicki Welsh's retirement count down give away, first week drawing.  Isn't it beautiful?

Here is a close up shot of one terrific area.  Thanks Vicki!  I'm going to have fun playing with this.

This is the hand made card that accompanied my gift.  She has shown them on her blog but it is so much more beautiful in person.  The metallic paint was hard to photograph.  It either caught a shine and didn't have color or didn't have enough shine.  This is the best photo I got of it.
Then I got a great shot of the ring neck or collared doves that visited my back yard.  The redbud trees are dropping their petals.

One of the doves flew up to the tree right outside my kitchen window.  I was afraid I would scare it away but he/she just sat there and posed.

I decided to eat lunch early and then go sew the preemie quilts before I took Dad to his Dr. appointments.  I just got down to the basement and turned on the TV to listen to the noon news and the electricity went out.  It was still out at 2 when I had to leave.  I had to disengage the garage door opener and lift my garage door myself.  The Dr. appointments took 2 hours and then on to the pharmacy and then I took Dad home.  The electricity had come back on while I was gone.  I needed to unwind after all of the Dr. speak I listened to so I worked on the Kaffe triangle quilt.
I didn't want to move all of the triangles that I had on the first wall from last week so I brought one of the other walls over and set it at an angle next to the first one.  Because of the pipes along the ceiling, I can't get 2 walls side by side in that location.  I need to cut some more lighter fabrics to finish the edges.  I may do some rearranging on it too.  I was able to lose myself in this project and unwind so I could get a good night's sleep.

what a day! Today will be lots better. Clearly, lack of power or time does not effect your artist's eye - this triangle piece is awesome!

Terrific ending to your day! Isn't Vicki's fabric gorgeous? I have made several purchases from her and love every bit of it. The piece you won is just beautiful! Glad all went well with your Dad! Your Kaffe quilt is just turning out beautifully.

No Electricity that is no fun. The weather here today may cause that. The Wind has been horrible. Your quilt is coming along well. Chris

We're not anywhere near you, but my Mom lost power yesterday too. It really is depressing when you are all geared up to sew...

I think you mentioned it once before, but what do you use for your moveable design boards?

I love Vicki's things although I have never ordered - I will one day - I keep telling myself to use up some of what I have first. Love the quilt you are working on.

lots and lots going on but wow...what wonder material and such a beautiful hand made card! And the doves are so peaceful. Well, I guess that's really nothing new to hear. But look at them! So...peaceful! They just make me smile. We mostly have pigeons and crows but there are a few woodpeckers and little yellow birds too.

Our color pallets tend to be very similar. I find that I love color more and more these days, the brighter, the better. Your work is wonderful. Cameron

Ah, fabric therapy! Works every time. Sometime I just pet my fabrics. :) Seriously, that's why we quilt - the feast for the senses, the tactile pleasure of the feel of the fabric and the visual delight of the patterns and colors and the arranging them into something totally new!

Sorry to hear that you had such a bad day yesterday. Our power went off a couple of days ago. It threw me right off my schedule! Good that you have Kaffe fabric to get lost in.

Again I love seeing the two walls of those glorious squares.

And to see your 'ringneck' doves... every region seems to have doves and the ring must be a northern IL. trade mark. ☺ I do not remember the ring neck growing up there as a kid. And my aunts and uncle's that have lived there all their lives, told us that they have come into the area in the last several years.

Lovely fabric from Vicki Welsh. Like looking at a kaleidoscope.

Sounds like a very full day that you had today.
The doves are beautiful and so is your hand dyed fabric. What a nice price for you to win.
Hope that the electricity doesn't cause you anymore problems.

Anna

What are your walls made of?

I read your blog daily - you inspire even the most "beginning" of us quilters! Thanks for the time you spend sharing your art.

We had a spring snow storm here the other day, no power loss though.

And such lovely hand dyes! I picked up a few at the merchant mall the other day at Quilt Canada. I already has some ideas planned.
