Card file

The only sewing I did yesterday was on index cards. I decided to make a file of all of the Kaffe fabrics that I have. In his books he is always referencing the fabrics he used in the quilts by number only. I always like to see which ones he used even if I don't use the same ones when I make the quilts. I have a good start with all of the scraps that I had on my cutting table and in 2 small bags. I am going to do some more cutting for another quilt so I should be able to get most of them catalogued.
I did rearrange the blocks on the quilt but I'm still not done so I'll show the final arrangement soon. Today is the sewing circle at church again so I won't get much done until evening.

What a fantastic idea!! This can be applied to so many fabric groupings too. Your Kaffe Log cabin looks just wonderful. You were certainly busy while I was on retreat!! Glad to come back to some wonderful eye candy.

We are on the same track...I've been looking for a couple days for a possible list of ALL of Kaffe's fabrics with numbers...guess I will make my own...great idea Wanda.

This seems like a huge task...but well worth it when finished.

Hi Wanda,
Good idea! He has such a wide range of colors and styles, yet they all work together.
Did you stitch the fabric to the cards?

A good idea, Wanda! I don't know if it would help me though. I don't have enough fabrics of any one line. But I have started to keep track of the fabrics that go into my quilts lately. A sort of quilt journal and it is working out great!

Boy, just when I thought I was as organized as I could get. This is a great idea! Do you mind if I mention this post in my next Dye Candy post?

What a great reference tool those index cards will be! How did you affix the fabric to the cards?

Whoa, that's too organized for me. But it will be great to "wander" through all those cards. I love Kaffe fabrics.

I'm totally impressed, wow, I'd love to be that organized...what a fantastic idea, are you then keeping a tracking log of quanities on the cards, less used = balance, great idea so then you know what you have for any quilt quanities for designing. LOVE IT!!!

what a great idea!

whats cool is how the kaffe fabrics in the top photo look like they're on corduroy (because of how the warp/weft is picked up by the scanner/photo) - wouldn't that be fun to have it on corduroy? durable bag bottoms.

anyway, i continue to love your work. great stuff. wonderful inspiration. thanks!!
