Starting a layout

While I was cleaning the basement I saw my pile of strips that I showed you here and I decided to start the layout. I think I will run mine horizontally instead of vertical like Kaffe did. I thought I was going to have to look for a couple deeper tones but the Roberta Horton plaids already have the deep tone I need. I have a few more fabrics that I can cut for this one too so this is just a sample layout.

I finished all of the Disappearing 9 patch blocks that I was working on Thurs. night and then I decided to try a batik block with some of the squares left over from a Double 4 patch that I made last year.
I think this might look good with some machine embroidery on the 2 squares that point to the center. Hmmm, more ideas................

Oh - the batik block is great.

Very soft pastels. Gorgeous. It will look very different horizontally. I think you are right about the embroidery too.

Hi Wanda,
You are just running with the summer quilt. I can see where it looks very "cool" to use on hot days.
And the batik disappearing 9-patch is gorgeous, even without embellishment.

I have a jelly roll that I was thinking of doing some kind of strip layout like the first quilt that you have pictured - haven't decided for sure though. I like your disappearing 9 patch.

I love this batik fabric with green and purple... where did that come from?

Ooh, I like the horizontal layout. The original is pretty, but it didn't do much for me.

What a great horizontal layout. I hope everyone enlarges this piece, the pastel fabrics are gorgeous.

Love your Double 4 patch. The 'cotton candy' squares give this piece the 'wow' factor.

The batik block is fabulous on its own!
Your strips in the horizontal layout are intriguing. Interesting how different it looks than the vertical set.

You never seem to run out of ideas! I love the batik block. And I'm looking at your strips and thinking that might be a good thing to do with all of leftover 2 1/2" strips.

I really like your D9P, the colors are great. I am always amazed at how different this block can look.
