Flowers for Sunday

I have one amaryllis blooming right now. It has 2 more buds to open, 5 flowers on one stalk. I have another plant with 2 flower stalks, one which should be blooming in about a week. I brought in all of my bulbs from previous years and have started watering them. So far I only have leaves, but this one only had leaves for the first week or more so maybe there is hope.It is very cold again this morning. It was 0 when I went to bed and is all they way up to 5 degrees at 8:45 a.m. My newspaper is laying on my driveway and I'm not looking forward to walking out in this cold. I would think I am a wimp, except I know I am just tired of this frigid weather.

My daughter-in-law gave me my first amaryllis for Christmas. It is just starting to come to life. The directions that came with it tell how to plant and water, but nothing about what to do after that. Here, these incredible beauties have to be house plants. Mine is supposed to be white.

do you plant your amaryllis bulbs outside in the spring or do you keep them in a pot all year in the house? Also do you give them a dry spell -- what is your routine to have them come back the following year. I tried them once but the bulb ended up rotting in the pot.,

My friend had a couple amaryllises she had for Christmas. She read on Martha Stewart if you cut and put it in water the bloom lasts longer than if left on the bulb. She tested it over Christmas and it was true. She could not get over that the cut one it water lasted longer.

The amaryllis is lovely! I have never grown one and really don't have a green thumb. At least not for indoor plants. I do love to garden and play in my plant beds when I have time. But right now that seems to be a long time away. Like you, it is cold here too. Just waiting for a thaw.

Wrap up in a quilt for the long walk to get the paper.

What a nice touch to have that gorgeous flower blooming during a cold snap. Gives one hope that spring will come -- some day. :-)

Amaryllis is just beautiful. Good tip from AverettLadyNana/Martha Stewart... For enjoying the blossoms longer.

Five blossoms on one stalk is really a treat. You have given them lots of TLC.

I'm with you on the cold. Getting boring.
I haven't had much luck getting an amaryllis to re-bloom (I think it did once) so I'm going to look at the tricks posted by others.

We have the same frigid weather here in Maine that you have. The amaryllis is gorgeous and brightens things up indoors at least. The scrap eruption project turned out great, and I really like the way you quilted it--seems perfect.

My amaryllis is days away from opening. My mother-in-law sends us one every year and I love them.

That amaryllis is EXUBERANT! Do you know the variety? It looks a lot like what is known as Saint Joesph's Lily here in Louisiana.

Did you see the Sally Forth comic in your paper (after you braved the cold to retrieve it)? You are obviously not the only one who is tired of cold and snow and wintery weather!

LOVELY flowers...
