Baby Trip Around the World

Here it is, all finished!! I keep trying different measurements for the strips and the cross cuts. This one came out quite rectangular and would be good in the crib. It measures 37" x 51". I did the binding all by machine, sewn on the back and then flipped to the front. I used a zig zag stitch this time for the final stitching. A straight stitch seems to make the edge so stiff, and with zig zag it stays softer.
I used a Laurel Burch dotted/stripey fabric for the back. I do ditch quilting around every other color so it is like an echo of shapes. I usually do free motion meandering in the borders. I really don't think the baby will come back and tell me he/she wants more interesting quilting.
I'm off for lunch with friends today and maybe stopping at 2 quilt shops while we are at it. We had gentle rain this morning, so nice after all of the windy storms we have had.

So amazing -- I'm in the midst of a Trip Around the World for a baby!! Yours is great, and I love your quilting idea. I may do that if you don't mind. I'll post an in progress photo of mine later today.

I love all those fabrics! What a great job. Of course, that's no surprise when it comes from you.

Wanda, this blog is starting to feel like a 'bee group'! Wouldn't it be fun if everyone who comes here to chat with you (and often with each other) could actually get together for a quilting retreat!

The baby who gets this quilt will be delighted with the bright colors, and later remember you for giving him/her something to cuddle and carry around as a comfort. Good job!

Just had to laugh while picturing the baby, all grown up now, bringing you a well-loved and well-used quilt and complaining about the quilting!

Another wonderful finish. You are really pumping them out. The colors in this quilt are so bright and cheerful. How close do you trim your quilts? Do you use a 1/4 inch binding?

Funny, I've just been thinking about doing binding on some small quilts that way. I just don't feel like my usual hand stitching on the back. I was thinking of using one of the decorative stitches on my machine, though.
